Have you ever looked into your cable/internet bill to see why it costs so much?
I’m guessing the answer is no. I was exactly the same way before a few weeks ago when I decided to disect my bill and figure out why my family was paying so much. Cable and internet is something that most of us need these days but it’s crazy how much you actually have to spend. Jeez! Doesn’t it seem like there should be a way to get that price down every month and save money on your cable/internet bill? Well, you’re in luck, there is!!
Our family’s number one goal is to save money in 2018. Follow these steps to help your family do the same!
Here are the 6 ways to save money on your cable/internet bill.
1. Buy a Modem/Router
Did you know that when you sign up for cable/internet you are actually RENTING the modem/router that they install? I had no idea. I found out that we were paying an additional $9.99 per month for this. Let’s say you have your cable/internet provider for 5 years. You rent the modem/router every month for $9.99. The total cost after 5 years comes out to be $599.04. You can buy a modem/router online or in an electronics store for between $100 – $200. Which is basically what you would be paying for one year of renting it. Invest in a modem/router and save your money!
2. Late Fees
If you are late on a payment, they can charge you for that. I know that life gets in the way and you might forget to pay your bill on time. This happened to me a few months ago and I found out that they charged me $8.00 for a late payment. Therefore, you should ask your provider how much late fees will cost you and try to schedule automatic payments to avoid any fees and save money.
3. Renting Movies on Demand
It’s really convenient to just click and watch because you don’t have to physically hand the money over to rent it, it just gets added to your bill. Well, these can really add up! Save your money! My advice is to find a Redbox near you and rent from them for around $1.50 plus tax rather than spend $5.00 – $10.00 from your cable provider! That is a steal!
4. Cancel Subscriptions
I know that watching Game Of Thrones is a must for some people but if you are really trying to save money then you don’t NEED those subscriptions such as HBO or Showtime. There are plenty of good shows and movies on regular tv that you are already paying for. Maybe you can go over to a friend’s house that has those subscriptions and watch an episode or two with them instead!
5. Ask For a Deal
Most providers have special deals that they can offer you if you just ask them. You can also tell them that you are going to cancel your service because it is too expensive and they WILL find something to keep you as a customer. I was going to cancel cable with my provider and they begged me to stay and made me an offer I could not refuse that saved me a good chunk of money every month!
6. Cancel Cable all Together or Switch to a Streaming Service
The last thing you can do is to cancel cable all together. I have heard of people that don’t have cable at all and are completely content. Personally, I need to have my guilty pleasures to watch (Christly Knows Best and Fixer Upper) so we actually switched to Hulu Live Tv. It has some basic live tv channels which you can record and it has a large variety of movies and shows to stream. It works out great for us. Plus it saves us money! There are tons of streaming sites you can sign up for, each with their own unique features and prices.
Doesn’t that seem easy? Now that you’ve read my 6 ways to save money on your cable/internet bill, look over your bill and try out some of my suggestions to help get some money back into your pocket! These are things that I have personally done and work for my family. A penny saved is a penny earned as they say. I hope that these work out for you mama!
