I’d be lying if I told you that lavender isn’t my favorite essential oil out there. The lavender essential oil uses are seriously endless! Not the crappy synthetic lavender essential oil that you can buy at large chain stores. I’m talking about REAL lavender essential oil. I use to think I hated the smell of lavender oil because cheap oils have a very weird strong scent to them and are mixed with nasty additives that can be harmful when applied to skin or inhaled.
Lavender essential oil is mentioned in the bible and has been used for thousands of years! There has to be a reason that it’s still being used today, right?
I bought my first bottle of real lavender essential oil about six months ago. I thought it would be nice to use in my diffuser for it’s calming effects in the evenings. That’s all I thought it was used for and man, was I wrong! I did some research and kept finding different ways to use it, one after another and so on. I’m sure that in the future I will find more amazing lavender essential oil uses that will work great for my family.
Lavender essential oil uses can range from stress relief to household cleaning. Here is a list of 13 Lavender oil uses & why you’ll love it!
1. Calming / Stress & Anxiety Relief
Lavender is probably the top oil out there for when you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed. There are studies stating that it can help with people who suffer from anxiety, depression, ptsd, & postpartum depression. It’s also great to use in the evenings to unwind from a stressful day. Diffuse a few drops into a diffuser or apply to the insides of wrist and smell as needed.
2. Sunburn Relief / Minor Burns
This is one of my favorite lavender oil uses, it’s AMAZING! I used lavender for the first time on my super bad sunburn and it literally stopped itching and burning immediately after apply it. I applied it in the morning and at night after a shower and I never peeled! I made a mixture of 2 drops lavender essential oil to 1 Tbsp of organic coconut oil and mixed it. Keep this one on hand during the summer for sure!
Lavender heals cracked and dry skin so applying it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil will soothe and rehydrate trouble areas.
4. Yeast Infection Treatment
I was very skeptical of this as a treatment for a yeast infection at first. I was doing some research and looking for natural ways to cure a yeast infection. Lavender essential oil came up so I gave it a try. I mixed 2 drops lavender essential oil to 1 tablespoons organic coconut oil and applied all over itchy red area with clean hands. I did this after taking an apple cider vinegar bath and I highly recommend doing these both together. Within a few days my yeast infection symptoms were gone!
5. Migraine & Headache Relief
Applying lavender oil to hands and rubbing into temples, across forehead, and applying to back of neck will help to combat your headache. You can also smell it straight from the bottle.
6. Nausea / Motion Sickness
Lavender is great for getting rid of nausea. Diffuse a few drops into a diffuser, apply to the insides of wrists and smell as needed, or smell straight from the bottle.
7. Minor Cuts & Burns
Lavender oil is antimicrobial and when applied to minor cuts or burns it promotes healing. Mix 2 drops lavender oil to 1 Tbsp organic coconut oil and apply to cut or burn.
Since lavender oil is an anti-inflammatory it works great to treat pesky allergies. I like to diffuse it with two other allergy fighting essential oils. 1 drop lavender, 1 drop peppermint, 1 drop lemon.
Lavender oil is great for treating dandruff because it is anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal. These properties fight away fungus / dandruff and helps treat dry scalp. Add 2-3 drops of lavender oil to damp scalp or mix 2-3 drops to a melted tablespoon of coconut oil. Apply to damp hair and rub into your scalp. Leave this in for 15-30 minutes and wash hair with a gentle shampoo. ( I use this mixture as a dry scalp treatment as well.)
10. Sleep Aid
Lavender essential oil is one of the best natural sleep aids due to it’s chemical compounds. There are a few ways to use it. You could add a few drops to a carrier oil like coconut oil and massage it into your shoulders and neck. Another option is diffusing a few drops in s diffuser before bed (I love this one for calming down my baby boy in the family room before bed). You could also apply it to the insides of your wrists & behind ears or just smell it straight from the bottle a few times.
11. Insect Bites
Lavender oil can help soothe insect bites because of it’s anti-inflammatory properties. It can really help stop the itching. Mix 2 drops lavender essential oil with 1 Tbsp organic coconut oil and apply to insect bites.
12. Household Cleaner
Use lavender essential oil to make a natural household cleaner. Lavender is an antibacterial so it will work great to clean countertops and door knobs. Add 6 drops to 1 glass spray bottle and top it off with vinegar. Add more lavender to preference.
13. Dryer Freshener
Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to a wool dryer ball for a natural fresh smelling laundry.
*Make sure to test oil on skin to make sure you are not allergic before trying any of these remedies.
Using essential oils had made such an awesome unexpected impact on my family’s life and health. I chose to only use 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oil for my family. Not that synthetic crap that is full of nasty additives that has no health benefits and can be harmful when used.
I knew nothing about oils so I researched a ton and decided that Young Living Essential Oils was the best way to go. I wanted to buy a few oils but wasn’t sure which ones I would use or like. They sell so many oils I was kind of overwhelmed. I ended up purchasing the Premium Started Kit and I am so glad that I did! The cost is $160 which is 50% off retail price.
